This is a multi-level posting.

This position requires the ability to leverage INL's scientific and technical capabilities to develop the state and regional economy. This includes the following activities:

  • Manage local and state relationships to help the community better leverage INL's scientific and technical capabilities.
  • Identify science and technology needs of state and regional entities and build partnerships between companies and researchers to achieve business results.
  • In coordination with the Commercialization Managers, support technology transfer initiatives with regional and State nonfederal partners.
  • Represent the INL on Boards for local and state economic development groups throughout the State of Idaho.
  • Make funding recommendations to Technology Deployment management to facilitate strategic economic development efforts and organizes events on a local, regional, state, and national level to facilitate technology-based economic development.
  • Develop an effective region and state investment strategy with a focus on technology-based economic development that supports INL's mission objectives.
  • Help to brand Technology Deployment and technology-based economic development as a responsive, professional, high quality and fully integrated organization.
  • Ensure compliance with DOE policies and procedures. Organize events and meetings to further economic development goals and INL's reputation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • SP0300 Bachelor's degree and 7 years relevant economic development experience, or a Advanced Degree and 5 years relevant economic development experience
  • SP0400 Bachelor's degree and 11 years relevant economic development experience or Advanced Degree and 9 years relevant economic development experience (Advanced Degree is desired).
  • Skills required: Ability to travel extensively (up to 75% within State and Region) is required. Ability to work well with personnel at all levels of government and private enterprise. Individual initiative and ability to work in an unstructured environment.
  • Skills strongly preferred: Experience in working with start-up companies. Experience with technology-based economic development. Experience in working with intellectual property. An aptitude for understanding complex scientific information. Project management skills, a team players, and self-starter.
  • Special Requirements and/or Training: Introductory level training courses on intellectual property and general technology transfer preferred. Demonstrated skills in planning and organization of business development events. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Project management.

Business Development and Incentives Manager

Summary:

To execute the plans and programs of business retention/expansion and recruitment for projects and assist in creating or retaining key employment primarily within the greater Bend area, but also assisting in Sisters and other communities as needed. The Business Development and Incentives Manager must be familiar with all goals and activities necessary in order to effectively contact, communicate with, and assist in meaningful ways existing primary employers in the region as well as assist Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) and local leaders with attracting new primary employers to the community. Additionally, the Business Development and Incentives Manager is directly responsible for working with Bend, Sisters and other community leaders to assist in projects, initiatives and activities that directly or indirectly make the community an easier, more cost effective, and friendlier place in which to do business. Manage relationship with board partners, clients, and the public. The ability to maintain professional confidentiality is germane to this position.

Requirements:

  • BS in Business or related field
  • At least five years of demonstrated success in a business development role
  • Outstanding communication skills – verbal and written
  • Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint
  • Proven success in a collaborative, team-oriented work environment
  • Project management skills, experience working on multiple projects at one time
  • Executive presence
  • Sense of humor
